Tyler Reed grew up on a small farm in northwest Ohio. As a teen he wrestled and practiced martial arts but as he neared his mid-teens, his attention turned to cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. He spent much of the late 80′s backpacking throughout Europe and the United States playing his guitar in cafes, subways and on street corners. In the late 90′s he was able to kick his habits for 6 months when, on the advice of his doctor he began meditating and practicing Hatha yoga and Qigong. He relapsed back into his old addictions, waking up once again in 2005 when he spent several months practicing Ashtanga Yoga.
It wasn’t until April 2006 that he made the decision to turn his life around forever. He stopped abusing alcohol, quit a 2-pack-a-day cigarette addiction and substituted meditation, Qigong and walking in their place. As his health improved, he started jogging, lifting weights and practicing Ashtanga yoga again. In early 2007, Laurel Hodory invited Tyler to participate in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program under her direction. Tyler accepted the invitation and found himself on a great journey of learning and practice. He completed his training that fall, registered with the Yoga Alliance as a certified Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga teacher and immediately began teaching.
He often weaves Qigong exercises into his classes, using them to help students warm-up, tune-in and center their energy. Tyler has designed and presented workshops on breathwork, meditation, and yogic philosophy. In May of 2009 Tyler became a certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), passing one of the most rigorous exams in the fitness industry. In 2010 Tyler created The Ohio YogaCast, a podcast the covers a variety of yoga-related topics and featured many guest interviews.
Tyler actively volunteers through the Ohio Department of Youth Services, teaching yoga and meditation to incarcerated youth on a weekly basis.
